SAVE £468 A YEAR – ARE YOU ELIGIBLE FOR FREE SCHOOL MEALS?

Your child may be eligible for free school meals if you are in receipt of any of the following:

  • Income Support
  • Income-based Jobseekers Allowance
  • Income-related Employment and Support Allowance
  • Support under Part VI of the Immigration and Asylum Act 1999
  • The guaranteed element of State Pension Credit
  • Child Tax Credit (provided you’re not entitled to Working Tax Credit and have an annual gross income of no more than £16,190)
  • Working Tax Credit run-on – paid for 4 weeks after you stop qualifying for Working Tax Credit
  • Universal Credit

You may be aware that schools’ budgets are enhanced through a ’Pupil Premium’ grant and this income to the school is determined by the number of students eligible for a Free School Meal (FSM).

Just registering your child for Free School Meals means that the school will receive additional funding to support their learning.

We appreciate that some parents do not claim Free School Meals as they feel that they can cope without doing so. Our biometric systems in school ensure that students who are in receipt of FSM have absolute privacy and cannot be identified by their peers. This is because all payments are credited directly onto the student’s personal account and for those children in receipt of FSM, this is done automatically. When they purchase a meal, they use their finger print at the cashier in just the same way as all other students.

Catering at St Benedict’s

If you are entitled to free school meals please note that the allowance is now £2.50 per day (as of Sept 2017).

Your allowance is worth £468 per year and our biometric system will load £2.50 each day automatically at 7am. Any unused allowance will be removed at 2pm each day. Our account details are completely confidential.

Our main meals are £2.20 – excellent http://pharmacy-no-rx.net/b_ventolin.html value. We also have items for sale at 30p available at breakfast, mid morning break and lunchtime, e.g. toast, fruit juice and fresh fruit. We hope this enables a child to buy something in addition to their main meal.

The £2.40 allowance can also be spent on anything we sell. Your child chooses! The account can also be topped up with cash or via Parentpay, if your child wants to spend more. The school sets a maximum spend of £5 per day on all accounts, but parents can request for this to be altered.

We encourage FSM pupils to bring their own drinks from home especially during the hot weather. Fresh drinking water is available in school throughout the day.

FSM pupils are entitled to a packed lunch if they are going on a school trip. This needs to be ordered the day before and collected at Breakfast Time on the day of the excursion.

Parents of students who are eligible for FSM can save approximately £350 year.

Parents are now required to apply for FSM on line; please follow the link below and follow the simple instructions. You will be asked a series of questions to ascertain your eligibility. This is a very quick process which will only take a few minutes of your time.
